Research magazine focuses on 'building safer world'

May 13, 2011--The latest issue of UD Research shows how the University of Delaware is helping to make the U.S. – and the world – safer.

Special sections highlight UD’s Center for Composite Materials, a U.S. Army National Laboratory Center of Excellence making strong, lightweight composites for applications ranging from military vehicles and watercraft to custom orthotics; “Tough Technologies” such as Liquid Armor, which hardens on impact when struck with bullets, blades or bombs; and “On the Home Front,” exploring topics from better street lighting to disaster-resistant roofing.

In “First Person,” Robin Morgan, dean of the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources, tells us why, even in America, access to fresh and nutritious food can no longer be taken for granted, and why the work on solutions to America’s food security challenges must begin now.

Learn more about Richard Heck, Willis F. Harrington Professor Emeritus and winner of the 2010 Nobel Prize in Chemistry, as UD gears up for a major symposium in his honor on May 26, and test your knowledge of science’s most prestigious prize.

Take the readership survey, and you could win one of three prizes of $100 gift certificates to the UD Bookstore.
